Friday. Fantastic.

Published by Cruz under -

I’m really exhausted, but I must jot this down before the moment is gone.

What a Friday!

Three hours of sleep. Three ERP gantries. The final rehearsal for Y.E.S. 93.3FM’s 20th Anniversary Show was held at 10am, Friday. We had so much fun preparing for the skit. And with the very professional Judy Ngo directing us, I have this new found awe and respect for stage production.

Now, I would love to try theatre someday. Someone cast me, please! I would prefer a not-too-complicated role, with not-too-complicated lines, and not-too-complicated body movements. I know theatre isn’t the most lucrative trade, so I won’t ask for unrealistic fees. Just reimburse me for the petrol and parking, especially if the rehearsals were to be held in the CBD (eg Singapore Chinese Orchestra Concert Hall).

The first show went on quite well, though I had a little trouble with the classical pieces. I have no idea why I can’t memorise 引子与回旋 随想曲 by heart. Argh!

Halfway into the finale song 大地回春,I shouted 嘿!too loudly and spread my arms too wide, the top button of my blazer came off! Initially I thought it had came undone, and I was shocked to discover five seconds later that the button was gone.

At the same time, five of us were supposed to walk down from the stage to distribute golden coins (ie chocolate), while the other four remained on stage. We were supposed to return for the final verse, and I was the only one to make it back on time. I totally lost my composure. So many things were going through my mind. “Where’s my button?! Why was I the only one back on stage? Was I the one who missed the cue, or were the other four blur?”

Standing in the middle of the stage, I exclaimed “今晚真的是太High了!我的扣子掉了!”

That innocent remark had the entire concert hall laughing with/at me. People on stage were sniggering, “You are FAT!” Maestro Ye heard “裤子掉了” and he was stretching over to hold my pants. And they laughed even harder when I further fumbled on my closing lines. “音乐会过后有签名会“ became “音乐后过后有签名会“。My goodness.

Those of you who were there for the first night, thank you very much for coming. Just remember my bling bling ear stud and deep deep dimples. Delete the 大地回春 scene from your memory. Though I think it was the most hilarious closing ever.

We spent the next thirty minutes signing autographs and taking pictures, and by 1045pm, I was at the Indoor Stadium. AMIT! AMIT! AMIT! The night ended with a supper at Oscar’s, Conrad.

Right, I’m going to wash off the hair spray and make up now. And sew the button back onto my blazer for the second show on Saturday. Good night!

Thursday. Good and Bad.

Published by Cruz under -

Had a really bad start on Thursday. Was running low on energy, and patience too.

My Quote of the Day:

In case you don’t know what DL means, the definition from Coxford Singlish Dictionary is appended below. (Different spelling, same meaning)

It’s one more day to Y.E.S. 93.3FM’s 20th Anniversary Show and Singapore Chinese Orchestra Opening Gala, and it has been an intense week of rehearsals. I’m sincerely proud of the hard work the team has put in. It’s been quite a while since the entire station gathers on a daily basis. Boys and girls, WE ROCK!

Someone conferred me a Best Dressed Award- for my attire in the opening skit. Hahahha. Can someone be kind enough and send me a scan of this week’s I Weekly? (My printer/scanner hasn’t been working since I upgraded to Snow Leopard last year. It’s been that long, and I haven’t really found a solution.)

(Picture from Jiafa’s FB. Lazy to load mine.)

Headed to Raffles Convention Centre at 1030pm for the wedding celebrations of Alfred and Cuifang. We arrived just before the dessert was served. While the couple thanked us repeatedly for rushing down, I have to record my appreciation for the creation of the “latecomers’ table”. We didn’t have to wait for the dinner to be served course by course. Everything was enticingly displayed. It’s the best wedding banquet I’ve attended, I tell you.

I guess I won’t have to tell you what I saw and who I met because the details will be splashed in the media. And with more 1,000 guests, there will be photos all over the place.

The godson came over to exclaim that I’ve put on weight. Rude. Insensitive. Haha. His real motive was to come over to talk to his idol. Awwwww.

Edit:

Supposed to be in Msia watching The Grasshoppers!

Published by Cruz under -

I missed The Grasshoppers in 2007 because of that great big fall. They came again last year and I was busy with something. I had wanted to watch them in Taipei last December, but their tickets were sold out before I could even search for a flight. I thought I could finally catch them in action in Sunway Lagoon this weekend, but the Universe ensured I was in Singapore.

Oh well. Four events this weekend. If you were in my shoes, would you be spending money overseas or stay put to make ends meet?

MediaCorp hosted the Shanghai World Expo entourage at a trade and media event at St. Regis on Friday evening. Excellent venue, that was. Michelle Chong came over and nudged me, “You are bilingual hor?” I shook my head and told her I much preferred doing events in Mandarin. “But you don’t have a Cheena-pok accent. You should do more shows in English!” Thanks babe, I take that as a compliment. Hahha.

And Vivian Lai was hilarious. She demanded to know why I didn’t visit her mother when I was in Taipei last month. What?! I barely know her (Vivian)! She later thanked me for the Haibao (World Expo mascot) soft toy, and reminded me to pay her mum a visit the next time I go to Taipei. She’s crazy. Hahahha!

I was generally sipping Coke throughout the event, and only snitched a glass of red wine after I conducted the finale lucky draw. I don’t know what came over me, and I’m certainly not depressed or anything, but I had been craving for some red the entire week. Because I won’t be able to polish off a whole bottle by myself, and I don’t have any fancy storage facilities at home, I just had to wait for free alcohol to come my way. Vizpro, thanks for paying me and quenching my thirst at the same time.

The stupidest thing happened when I was leaving. Barely ten minutes after grabbing the complimentary parking coupon (cheapo alert #2), I allowed the EPS gantry to deduct money from my cash card. “Oh, it’s $5. Wait! I have comp parking! Shit!” It’s the second time already. Damn it.

After hosting a CNY event at Central on Saturday afternoon, we brought our Taiwanese friend out for seafood. In case you’re wondering, Godfrey had plans. I didn’t buy him dinner eventually, but I just got confirmed as the host of the launch event on Sunday. In my humble opinion, standing next to him on stage is ten times worse than having a meal together.

Finally, I just have to tell you about the fantastic scoop of Durian Decadence with Caramelised Biscuits I had at Ice Cream Chefs a few hours ago. Rich. Creamy. Heavenly. I need one more scoop tomorrow to decide if it’s indeed better than the Mao Shan Wang Ice Cream I’ve been having at U.d.d.e.r.s.

P/S: If anyone from Ice Cream Chefs is reading this, the music on your website is very irritating.

“我可以不要和195公分高的人吃飯嗎?”

Published by Cruz under -

So?

S:

Nooooooo!

Published by Cruz under -

I ate this on the last day of 2009. Any guesses what this is?

Edit 17/01/10: Oops. I nearly forgot about this. Some of you are indeed more knowledgeable or more adventurous when it comes to food. The answer is: CHICKEN TESTICLES!

Why/How do roosters have such huge testicles?! Or did the balls expand while cooking?

It has a firm sausage like texture on the exterior, and is grossly soft within. Maybe I wouldn’t have winced if I didn’t know what I was eating. I gingerly swallowed two of those before leaving the rest of the pot to the Taiwanese. They loved it. Eeeew.
