Versatile and passionate – The two main qualities that well describe Raj Kumar who’s a Producer-Presenter and the Editor of the 938LIVE Sports Team.

As ‘The RAJMAN’, he currently leads a team of seasoned broadcasters in ensuring the main sporting headlines, results and stories, are heard across MediaCorp radio stations. His work ethics are guided by radio’s greatest strengths – Accuracy and Immediacy. Having joined the team in 2002, this Ngee Ann Poly FSV Pioneer graduate has taken the role of Sports reporting on Radio to new heights. Till today, Raj remains as the only Broadcast Journalist (of any genre) to have done simultaneous Live reports from a single event for several Mediacorp Radio stations. From the 2005 SEA Games in Manila to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, you most probably would have heard Raj’s colourful and informative reports from these events on 938LIVE, Gold 90.5, 987 and Class 95. With the support from several reknowned local DJs and their Producers, Raj was able to deliver reports and updates to thousands of listeners across 4 Radio stations. In addition, the self-confessed Liverpool FC fan has also delivered Live daily reports to Radio Australia during key international events like the SEA Games.

Radio might be his immediate working platform. But that’s not stopped Channel News Asia from also tapping into Raj’s talents and knowledge. Besides Live reports for Radio, Raj has been delivering updates and news to CNA viewers from the SEA Games, the ASEAN Football Championships and the Olympics. His initial collaboration with CNA dates back to 2003 and he has since earned the tag of the ‘Sports Guru’ on its Prime Time Morning Studio segments on Fridays. Giving his insights, analysis and views on the hottest topics in several key sports, Raj has become one of the most easily spotted and well-liked personalities on regional television. Besides reporting for both Radio and Television, he’s also one of the Presenters and Commentators on Channel 5′s coverage of the S-league and Singapore’s national team since 2006. Describing it as the toughest job on television, Raj is constantly working on improving his TV commentary skills in order to satisfy the home audience.

As a further expansion of his skills, Raj has also written articles for several publications. Between 2009 – 2011, he contributed periodically to the TODAY paper. He also provided predictions of English Premier League matches for local-based weekly magazine ‘Football Update’. And in the period of 2003 – 2007, Raj had his own sports column in the long-running local football magazine, ‘Football Weekly’.

Having travelled to exotic destinations like La Manga Spain and Vienna Austria to cover international sporting events, Raj has even gone on to emcee at several local games numbering from 500 to more than 20,000 spectators at the National Stadium. Believing that he can do a much better job than others, he sometimes puts his credability on the line, in order to entertain the fans and the crowds at major sporting events. And since helming the Sports team from 2005, Raj has worked tirelessly with several clients in creating programmes to suit their sporting needs as well as branding purposes on 938LIVE.
