Lunchtime Jukebox
weekdays 10am–2pm
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who liked nothing better than twirling in front of the mirror to the Beatles and Boney M, whilst wearing her mother’s high heels. Fast forward several years later and not much has changed. Except that not-so-little girl now has her own high heels to wear – one hundred and fifty pairs, to be exact. She blames being vertically challenged for her high heel fetish.
What this five-foot wonder lacks in height she definitely makes up with decibels. Her royal loudness’ obvious penchant for drama has been put to good use on the local stage and you may have seen Denise in productions including Kara-You-OK?, Chang and Eng, Broadway Beng, The Little Shop of Horrors, Animal Farm and the 20th Anniversary of Beauty World as conniving cabaret queen Lulu. In case you’re wondering, no, life does not imitate art and rest assured you’ll find that Denise is really quite lovely and cordial on-air. Modest too!
For animation aficionados, you may have heard Denise’s vocal stylings in popular series like Detective Conan, Doraemon and One Piece. This is one outlet for the many voices competing within and probably because she really is one big cartoon herself – larger than life, goofy and a little (ok, a lot!) accident-prone.
When Denise is not moving her body or her voice, she enjoys sewing. Really. She’s a whiz with a needle and thread and makes her own food-related accessories. Sushi brooches, anyone?
More on Denise:
- Wonder Woman and Miss Piggy are the two personalities she’d most like to meet.
- She’d never say no to Earl Grey Tea or Dirty Martinis (extra olives, please!) and she’s never met a beer she didn’t like.
- As far as she’s concerned, Suspicious Minds by Elvis is the greatest song known to humankind.
- She’s obsessed with hamburgers and 80’s teen movies.
- She believes shoe-shopping, french fry-eating and karaoke-singing should be made into Olympic sports.
- Collecting lame jokes is one hobby that keeps her busy, so try this one on for size:
Q: What’s brown and sticky?
A: A stick.
So for extra incredible aural stimulation daily, listen in to Denise on the Lunchtime Jukebox, Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm!
