what a superbly fun challenge this was!!! we had to work fast as pairs to match the appliances descriptin to the pictures given in a separate box! this was nailbiting as every correct answer gav us 2 points – and every wrong answer was minus one point!
but… we got all right!! yes unde the 1min30sec we managed to match correctly and were awarded 20 points! all the othe two teams also did well! got all right! whoo hoo
which means at the end of these two challenges, we are in the LEAD!!!!
:):)
now we must work on our presentation! keep your fingers cross for us

good morning gaia and the inhabitants!!!! we have just finished our first challenge for the second day of the gaia life challenge
this was fun as we had to get a member of the public to help us for this fun charade game. i managed to get Kumar who was enjoying his sunday morning stroll to help me out!!!
we then had to guess what animal the DJs were describing within 30 seconds and act it out to Jas who had another 30 seconds to confirm the right animal by selecting the right picture from a bunch of photos he had. then he had to stick it on the board given to us.
we got 4 out of 5 correct – we got tiger wrong as we thought that it was the lion – as we were tricked when the DJs said ‘king’ but we missed the key phrase: poachers hunt them!!!
ah! it’s all good! it was fun that we got to guess and then act it out for Jas to guess! we learnt more about the animals and we would definitely remember them!!!

for this challenge, we had to be spot on in picking out 5 wrong and 5 correct actions! we had to rope in a partner of the public! and we were so lucky to find Hush from the public to help us out!
i had to sit out for this challenge and Jas worked with hush and they got all 10 correct
cool! so some of the behaviors whih were highlighted were smoking and littering etc. so jas nd hush had to cross these actions to signal they were environmentally-unfriendly!
team B also had all 10 correct answers! so now we are in the lead and we should start worrying and preparing for our the presentation which we have to give tomorrow to the judges and the public on our Action For Gaia!
thanks for following with us and we cant wait to get our next and last toilet break for tonight :/
Ps. this is really a challenge – not being able to use the ladies anytime i want to as they limit our toilet breaks as part of the challenge!!!! i have come to treasure each 15 min break they give us!!! imagine people who do not have the luxury of the toilets we have- such as those living in rural villages etc!

whoo hoo! we won this challenge! it was so fun! we did not have to plant a tree tree! basically we had to transfer a soil-based plant to a hydroculture pot! yup, it was so nerve-wrecking and nail biting as the fastest team had to pour the water and push the ball up in the meter to the MAX point! if we wee to go above the max point, we would be disqualified!
but we won!!!! yes we cooperated well and listened hard for the instructions as to how to do it properly and fast! and we were so relieved when we were the first team to actually finish the task!
we never knew how to do this transfer but we are real glad and happy that we got the opportunity to learn and i bet we can share what we have learned with our friends and family members!
hmz, now we are inspired to plant a REAL tree and perhaps name it??? dream gaia :>

raising money for a cause! this was the crux of this challenge! we had to introduce to the public the Garden City Fund! and raise money from the public for this fund! the teams that raise the most amount of money within 5 minutes would win the challange!
for those who are wondering what the garden city fund -GCF is, well basically it was launched in 2003 and it aims to enourage the community to express their ersonal stake in sustining the garden city of singapore! while the government will continue to fund basic green infrastructue, GCF works in partnership with individuals and corporations to support an sustain the garden city initiatives.
we had to raise money from the public who was outside the mall here at plaza sing! the people we talked to were really friendly and nice and listened briefly to us and just donated amounts ranging from 10cents to $5! wow! everyone who helped us were really nice and we are so so so appreciative of your efforts to help us out! seriously, no amount is too small to contribute to our garden city!
we hope that the members of the public whom we talk to wil undestand what we are raising money for- and aim to be more aware of such causes and want to donate generously and or be a part of this green movement!!!
we emerged as second with the amount raised of about $41 total! team c won because one of the team member’s father kindly dontaed $50!! so it was so close and we were so heart-pain :0
stay tune!!! we just finished dinner and e had yummy dinner (chicken rice) and we are waiting for two more challenges before can finally rest and chill out tonight!!!!!1
do leave your comments- we love to hear from you!

this was our fifth challenge and it was so fun! basically the DJs read out questions to us and we had to write it on the paper and if we guessed correctly we are given 45 seconds to hunt for it from the public!
we managed to get almost all right! we were so anxious and did not want to write the wrong item! as would minus one mark! if we get it correct, we get to source for it and if we can bring back the item within 45 secs, we get an extra mark!it was great that the public was so helpful and sporting and lent us a helping hand by passing us plastic bag, handphone battery and straw!
when the DJs describe these items to us, it was good that we managed to understand more about them – such as their properties and harmful effects on the nature!
so we got a total of 6.5 marks! we tied with team B!
so we won this challenge with team B! we are esctatic! cant wait for the next challenge! yay

For this challenge, we had to make a device to transport water from one pail and run to another pail a few metres away.
This was very interesting as we were given old mgazines and we had to recycle them in the sense that we had to create a device to transpot the water.
this made us ponder on how people in the rural area scooped up water, fishes and perhaps oil spill? they do not have the advanced technology so probably they had to rely on traditional yet effective methods.
Jas did the running to and fro as he had longer legs – i poured the water from the pail and passed the funnel to him.
we managed to get 1.2 litres in the end and we got second. an improvement from our previous performance! now we must aim for 1st
as we have big dreams to save gaia and want to share them with our fellow singaporeans!

For this challenge, it is titled: Money No Enough and we had to guess the watts which different appliances used! and we had to again rope in a member of the public. so we got a kind sir- William to help us out!
this was so hard but it made me realize that appliances which I thought did not use so much watts actually did! for example the electric iron actually used 1000W and the microwave oven used a whopping 1300W! that’s certainly alot of consumption!
sad to say we scored the least amongst the rest of the teams and we were awarded only 1 point
but at least we learnt more about the watts which diffeent appliances used and now we would definitely be more careful and conscious of our usage!
cant wait to see what’s in store for challenge 4:)

This challenge was just as fun as the first one! Basically, we had to differentiate a pile of trash into plastic or paper – and we had to rope in a member of the public to help us out for the challenge! This is so that we can engage with the public on the gaia life challenge and share with them some of the tips and lessons we are learning from this event!
And if we put the wrong trash in the wrong bin, we will get penalized for it! minus one point :/ and for every correct one, we get 1 point!
Jas sat out for this challenge whereas I did the challenge – I was fortunate to find a member of the public – Johnny to help me out for this challenge!
At the end of the challenge, we got second! so means we got 2 points for this challenge! this bring out total score at this stage to 5!
Stay tuned for challenge 3! we are keeping our fingers crossed to be the 2009 Mediacorp Gaia-ssadors
