Fish & Full!

Published by Denise at 12:11 pm under Food,On Today's Show

Whilst scouring the crowded streets of Chinatown for snacks and new year decorations, I took a little detour for my favourite Mingfa Teochew fishball noodles at People’s Park Food Centre and stumbled, quite by accident, across this food stall, which serves wonderfully piquant Chinese-style curry fishhead.

Yip Cheong Kee has been in the People’s Park area for years and is famous for their steamed fish heads in various styles. Choose from the Chilli steamed fish head (top seller!) or their Cantonese-style. But obviously, my absolute favourite is the addictive curry fish head in a claypot. The freshness of the fish head is superb. The meat is tender, smooth, but not mushy and each generous portion is bursting with flavour. Rich, creamy, salty, spicy, tangy (due to the secret and brilliant addition of pineapple), this is one curry fish head (only $20, enough for 4, add $0.50 per bowl of white rice) that will leave you thoroughly satisfied on cold, rainy day. It’s so delicious you’ll want to drink the curry down to the last drop!

I looooove this Chinese-style curry fishhead!

Gleeful!

Check out the huge chunk of cheek meat – best part – so delicate and tender!

Love how generous they are with their ingredients, especially the taupok, which really soaks up all those lovely flavours.

Perfect plate – taupok, brinjal, lady’s finger, fish smothered in that delicious curry gravy.

Even the eyeball was huge and tasty!

P.S. If you’re there & happen to see a crazy lady crouched in a corner licking the claypot, just say, “ Hi Denise!”

Yup, it’s the Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan – you’re right! What sharp eyes you have, Frankie! :)

    You’re right, Denise.

When my friend first brought me there to eat, I fell in love immediately. I like the amount of vegetables they put in the claypot, and I like it when there isn’t any chilli oil floating on the surface at all.

Cheers… was there last Friday. Addictive.
