in the morning, we had to wake up early to catch the car ferry to the sado island…
Sado Island – located in the Sea of Japan off the coast of Niigata Prefecture – is a perfect destination to discover the unspoiled beauty of Japan. Clear water, panoramic views, undisturbed nature, and unique cultural traditions are all here for you to enjoy.

just like long long time ago in china, even korea… islands are for people exiled from the mainland!! the same goes for sado island!
When direct control from mainland Japan started around the 8th century, due to its remoteness, the island soon became a place of banishment for difficult or inconvenient Japanese figures. Exile to remote locations such as Sado was a very serious punishment, second only to the death penalty, and people were not expected to return.

n when i was reading up about this place, i was very fascinated by the wooden-tub-ladies!!

Tarai-bune, wooden tub boats made from barrels, are another Sado institution. Local people still use these traditional vessels for fishing near shore. Hands-on experience is available at Ogi port and Yajima & Kyojima. The latter locale boasts a unique attraction, glass-bottomed tub boats, available from April to October. It is located in a small inlet formed by craggy lava.
